Safety & Rules

Open Water Swimming Rules

Both of our venues our privately owned, the families live on site, we ask that you treat the locations with respect.

These rules have been designed with your safety in mind and anyone refusing will be asked to leave. 

  • Ensure that you have completed a medical disclosure form, if you turn up on the day you will be asked to complete on before swimming.

  • Do not enter the water if under the influence of drug, alcohol or feeling unwell from prescription medication.

  • Swimming at both Wyresdale Park and Preese Hall Farm is strictly during specified swim sessions only.

  • All swimmers will receive a safety brief before entering the water, please adhere to all instructions given.

  • All swimmers are to wear a tow float this is compulsory. All juniors are to wear a wetsuit. We also recommend a bright coloured hat to aid visibility.

  • Min age of swimmers 10 + adult must be in the water with them unless attending a coached session.

  • During busier sessions there will be kayak support on the water.

  • Should you get into difficulty, try to stay calm, roll on your back, raise one arm and shout for help. Assistance will come try to relax and slow your breathing down.

  • In the event of the safety staff needing to evacute the water at Wyresdale Park there will be one long blast on the air horn, at Preese Hall, one long whistle blast. We appreciate that lots of swimmers wear ear plugs after a pause the alarm will be repeated until we have everyone's attention, follow the instructions give by the safety officer.

  • On exiting the water after your swim please ensure you checked out, if bands issued 'night swim' return the band on exit.

  • If you are taking any medicaion that you might need whilst swimming we ask that you bring in with you on session.
